When was the last time that you got a telephone call and were not sure where the number was coming from? I don’t know about you, but this happens to me frequently and at times, I may not recognize any part of the number at all, including the area code. This can lead to a frustrating situation.

In a broad sense, it will be able to tell you the state where the call is originating from, or perhaps the states if it spans a state line. This can often give you enough information that it tells you whether you know the individual who is calling or not.

If they happen to be calling from within a larger city, the entire area code may be incorporated directly into the city, along with other related area codes. In smaller, rural areas, the area code may span a rather large area which can take in a number of counties or perhaps just a town or two.
